Dear Sir, I was shocked to have read on the website that the Director of Liberian Police Force, Ms. Munnah Sieh said during her interview on FM Radio 50-50 in the Republic of Liberia warning Muslim women not to wear veil in public places. Being a Muslin and good citizen from Liberia, I will first of all let Ms. Sieh know the fact that Muslims are very loving and peaceful people on earth despite that some ill-gotten surrogates always try to demise and demonize our unique religion of one billion and three hundred million Muslims on earth everyday. The Liberian Police director owes the Muslim Umah (Community) and particularly those that she has attacked in Liberia. In fact the director has undertaken a very strategic plan to degrade and demoralize Islam and the Muslims by her statement. "at this time when terrorism is so high across the world, such a practice will not be tolerated in the country." "if a woman from the Islamic faith has a husband that is jealous for which, they usually wear veils, such a husband should make sure that he has everything in the house for his wife so that she can not get on the street wearing any veil." The is the most weak argument I have ever heard and complete rubisssssssssssssssssh and bla bla blaa!!!!. Do you know the number of women that are committing adultery daily even though when every basic need is provided for them? countless!! The most infamous of which is the somewhat unoriginal yet predictable 'attack on the veil' this age old attack is currently being used to fan the flame of hysteria against Islam. Questions have arisen once again. Is Islam oppressive? How does it oppress the woman? Is the Muslim woman's dress appropriate in the West asked by so called puppets of fake democracy. Thus the wheels of this discussion have been set in motion once again, seeking not only to defame Islam but even more specifically to erode the very identity of the Muslim woman. The director has worked arduously to nurture a host of concepts, which fundamentally contradict the Islamic viewpoint on life with the aim of replacing the concepts of Islam, which characterize the Islamic identity. When we look to the history of this attack, we will find such campaigns in the past were spearheaded by so called Islamic 'thinkers' who sought to propagate ideas such as modernism, secularism, the spirit of Islam and the emancipation of the Muslim woman. Examples of such individuals who happened to be highly acclaimed in Britain in the 19th century are Amir Ali and Qasim Amin. Amir Ali in one book discussed how the 'purdah' (Islamic dress) contradicted the true 'spirit of Islam' while Qasim Amin proposed that the fate of the Muslim woman was to be no more than that of a slave and that covering in the Islamic dress was a clear illustration of male domination and the female insignificance. A glimpse at the legacy of such thinkers reveals that their absolute devotion to the West, especially Britain lead them to propagate the view that the abandonment of Islam and the Islamic values were to be the salvation of the Muslims and the Muslim woman. In the past, this attack was part of a substantial intellectual war against Islam, which the kuffar resorted to in order to facilitate their plans of destroying the Uthmani Khilafah. This is a systematic and concerted attack against the Islamic dress. Ever since the West launched its war on Islam (also known as the 'War on Terrorism') there has been much said about the 'burka' and its oppression of the Muslim woman, it symbolizing her inferior position in society and the some neo-con in the west has boasted of its 'Unveiling of Afghanistan'. Those involved in this overt campaign include high profile political and public figures in the Western civilized societies. U.S first lady Laura Bush and the British Prime Minister's wife Cherie Blair who commented openly in a press conference, "Nothing more I think symbolizes the oppression of the woman than the Burka." They have been joined by others in their deionization of the Muslim woman, Such as LP director Ms. Sieh. And also which was highlighted by the French presidential candidate Jean-Marie Le Penn's statement concerning the wearing of the Khimar and Jilbaab 'It is good, it protects us from the ugly Women'. This infamous attack against the 'veil' has, in this century has been recycled. This is a grossly inaccurate and false perception perpetuated by the LP director who threatens the freedom of movement of Liberian Muslim women who wear traditional forms of dress, and who wear the face veil by choice, by inhibiting their inalienable right to freely practice their religious beliefs through creating an atmosphere of harassment, intimidation and hostility for women that freely choose to practice this part of their religion. Hundreds upon thousands of Liberian Muslim women from all ethnic backgrounds and walks of life freely choose to wear the traditional dress of Muslim women, including the face veil (burkah or niqab), many of whom are unmarried women, as an expression of modesty and increased religious devotion. It will be wise to mind your business madam police director. Madam Police Director, are you looking for scapegoat? What Liberia needs now is fight crime(s), restore peace, tranquility and not start another conflict. We have too much at hand; from sicknesses poverty, illiteracy, sanity etc…You name it. You should first of all worry about how to decrease the crime rate in Liberia. That’s the most significant job for a police officer. Liberians, as peace loving citizens see their country as needs help from all over the world. I think every Liberian, small, big, tall, little should play a pivotal role in the re-consolation- and the reconstruction of damage infrastructures and put Liberia back on the map where she belong love, liberty, and justice for all. Have you! Madam Police director done your research on the veil Muslim women wear on a daily basis? Or what are you trying to prove? and what are your intentions? Oh! That you can harass and intimidate Muslims in your community? It seems to me that you have some communist background. Madam President Sirleaf, watch out! Your so called peace enforcement administrators (Wolves in sheep clothes.) trying to undermined your government. Charles Taylor’s underground-moles. I think Mrs. Sirleaf as the first African female president does not anticipates ill-gotten statement to represent her image and administration. One thing that bothers me is that why the LP director is attacking muslin women alone? Catholic women wear veil as well, why Muslim? Question remained to be answered. Oh no! She can’t, may be she’s Catholic, or who knows or does she practice pagan religion? may be! Which one? I think women who cover themselves in veil dress are less likely to be attacked by a criminal. True! Go to www.facts.com. Nonetheless, Liberians will not allow one bad apple to spoil the rest. Madam so called police director please! Fight crime and not peace loving and abiding citizens of Liberia. If you have nothing else to wander about, go fly a kite! As the Americans say it. God bless State of Liberia and her people, Amen |
