As part of its commitment and obligation to ensuring attainment of peace in the country in post-conflict Liberia, the United

under the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS).

The disclosure was made Friday by UNMIL Civil Affairs Head, Abinbola Aina at program marking the announcement of results
of an essay competition on peace and integrity. It was held at the G.W. Gibson High School among students of MCSS.

When established, the peace club would help educate and sensitize children and young people on the importance of peace,
she told the audience which comprised of MCSS students and authorities of the University of Liberia as well as the Ministry of
Education.

Madam Aina said the initiative will create a platform for students to engage in dialogue and use peaceful means to resolve
problems among themselves. She added that it would promote honesty and integrity among school children.

She recalled that on December 8, 2006, UNMIL Civil Affairs office in collaboration with the MCSS, the Religious Council, and
Women in Peace Building Net Work (WIPNET) organized the Essay Peace Competition among students from various public
schools. It brought together over 68 students, 34 from elementary schools, 22 from the junior high category and 12 from the
senior high division.

"Why peace is good for Liberia and what can children do to promote peace and honesty among students" was the topic given
to elementary school students while junior high, considered "The role young people can play in promoting peace and integrity
among students.

High students wrote on the impact of good governance for the development of Liberia, what role have young people in
promoting and maintaining these."

After a careful scrutiny of the various works, student Rachael Doemah of the D.Tweh Memorial High School won the Senior
High Division, students Boima Massaley of the Logan Town Elementary School won the Elementary Division while student
Emmanuel Forley of the New Port Junior High School won the Junior High School.

UNMIL Civil Affairs Executive presented certificates to the winners and gifts for their outstanding and brilliant performances in
the competition.

MCSS Superintendent Mrs. Hester Williams Catakaw and the Co-Chairman of the MCSS Council, Estella Maria Polytechnic
President, Sister Mary Laura Brown admonished the winners to forge ahead in searching for more laurels in their academic
sojourns.

The students told journalists that they were happy to have worked away with awards and called on students attending public
schools not to see themselves as under privileged.
