It has been said and as we all are
aware, “United We Stand, Divided
We Fall”. Why can't we be good
listeners and allow others to

I would like to point out some

Perspectives of the Post “Mandingo Conference”
By: Varfley A. Dolleh July 03, 2007
SERVICES FOR
MEMBERS
Amidst the prediction of pessimists regarding the out come of the Just ended “Mandingo Conference” as a dismal failure,
especially, in the wake of the controversy regarding the “Guest Speaker ship”, but, on the contrary, it is pleasing to note that
in all it was a success and a new political water shied since this was a new precedent for the Mandingoes in the Americas and
the world alike.

Skepticism:  Gauging the political dialectics, it was no surprise that from the formative stage up to the inception of the
conference, the various actors, including delegates, and sober minded observers were all involved in deciphering the elements
of concern about the conference including the various speakers.  This manifests how pro-active our community has emerged
or transformed in the past decades.  I should hail all of the feuding parties in trying to unearth a recipe to our problems as a
nation under siege by successive government in Liberia.  I have no iota of consternation or remorse that we had this bold and
courageous interaction as brothers.  We must learn from this in order to be able to prepare our selves for the unfolding
challenges ahead day by day.

Achievement:  It is an open secret that the gathering of “Mandingoes” from all spheres of the divides was a new precedent in
the Americas and the world as a whole.  Never before have I heard about a “Mandingo Conference”.  I am proud of this noble
initiative and we all must commend and salute the architects of this heroic adventure. History will remember them as unifiers
despite some of the shortcomings engulfed the conference of this nature. For the first time, we saw young, old and others all
converging in one place to ponder over their future.  Never before have I seen the inspiration of young people to craft a
prescription for their future in their native land. Again, never before did I see women becoming self less and actively involved in
playing their roles as arbiter of peace. Never before did I see brothers cogently discussing issues with open disagreements
with the hope of agreeing.  Never before did I see young people driving long distances to attend a political forum void of the
regular pageantry were they are usually visible. Never before, did I see people organized and prepared to pay their share of
the financial burden with out any out cry. Never before did I see women all attired in unison yearning to listen to their leaders.
It was happy reunion seeing brothers hugging each other despite the disagreements in order to achieve the desire
objectivities.  What a splendid performance.  I salute all of you for this wonderful achievement leading to the formation of the
“Mandingo Federation”.

Food for taught by Speaker Bility:  I was impressed by the soul comforted and inspiring message delivered by the “Guest
Speaker, Hon. Musa Bility” at the conference.  Among the tangible elements were his remark regarding the level of unity they
have fostered as “Mandingoes in Liberia”.  He cautioned the conferees to unity and not to allow divisiveness to engulf them.
He affirms that it was laughable that we should be using “Alhaji Kromah” as an instrument of disunity.  “Alhaji Kromah used to
be one of my bitterest enemies, but today we have resolved every thing,” says Musa Bility.  This should serve as a motivation
in working to forge unity with in the community. “Don’t allow proxy war to prevail in the community, with some accusing each
other with alignment on Sawyer, or Kromah”, lamented Musa Bility.  “Varfley Dolleh shouldn’t be accused of fighting a proxy
war for Allhaji Kromah, knowing that Varfley Dolleh has always been an independent person with his own taught”, says Hon.
Musa Bility.  He paid special tribute to Alhaji Kromah for manifesting peace when he apologized to every one in Monrovia for
whatever he may have done to them in the past. He hailed him for his heroic stance in the redemption of the “Mandingo
Nation” when they were in a sate of confusion amidst genocide, murders, destruction in hands of Tayler and his men.  He also
recognized the significant role played by Hon. Sekou Damate Konneh that led to the expulsion of Charles Taylor from Liberia
leading to sanity and the relative peace we enjoyed today as a nation.

Dr. Masselly’s Concerns:  For his part the medical doctor, admonished the community to foster unity as a recipe for success
and development.  He maintains, the in the absence of unity we can’t foster our developmental progression as a nation and
people.  He took the “Ellen Government” to task for mistreatment of the “Mandingo” in certain areas of the society that needed
to be addressed.  He made reference to the unexpected machination during the confirmation of Justice Kabine Janneh and the
Public Work Minister respectively”, as an issue of concern; the targeting of “Mandingoes” at the passport bureau in obtaining
passport for traveling; force occupation of “Mandingoes lands in Nimba County” as issues that needed to be addressed by the
“Ellen Government,” if it must be taken serious in ensuring equitability for all void of favor. He commended the conference
organizers for the noble initiative undertaken.
To the Elected Officials:  It must be noted that being an elected official is not an end in it self, but rather a means to
deliverance and productivity. What is paramount is your ability to deliver the goods to the “Mandingo Nation” and it people as
a whole.  But wherein, you fail to deliver those goods, than you have made the relevance of your ascendancy a mere joke.
The community is yearning for dedicated, talented, conscious, farsighted and God fearing leaders that will serve as
inspirations to the young generation and posterity yet unborn.  The challenge is yours, to deliver or allow history to
microscopically judge you as failures.  This is the clarion call, which must be adhered to if you are to succeed. You must learn
to consult and be able to take effective decisions when ever necessary. At the same time you must be able to foster peace with
our detractors with out manifesting weakness in any shape or form. These are the real issues that must be addressed!!!!

Political “Olive Branch”:  As we made history, it is only binding that we made a clarion appeal to our brothers and sisters,
especially, those from “LIMNAY, the Wisconsin Mandingo Organization, Brother Kesselly and others to come on board as we
usher in the requisite change for our collective interest.  What ever we may have done to you, we say sorry.  Please join the
bandwagon of success and productivity.  While it is true that the conference was held with our your in-put, but it behooves us a
sober minded people to bring every one on board.  We are cognizant of the “Guest Speakers admonition” regarding forging
unity and peace in our community. It doesn’t help to fight at this time when our enemies are trying to destroy us ever than
before. There can be no winner, especially when brothers destroy each other. For example, similar thing is being manifested in
the “Palestinian Territory” where “Fatah and Hamas” are destroying each other further undermining any chance of achieving
their ultimate dream of having a “Palestinian State” with all the attributes of sovereign nation states.  With our expertise,
blessing and numerical strength combined, we could be a force to reckon with in Liberia.  You have seen over the years how
we have been relegated politically in ascending to the helm power as a result of disunity.  We need to learn from history in
order to know the present and the future.  For the past decade we have died and fought with the hope of seeking state power,
but failed successively at the dying minutes only because of “disunity and the divide and rule policy”.  The time has come to
reawaken our taught and reflect on the past only if we are committed to change. This is my envisaged dream and
unquestionable political will

Finally: We call on the organizers of next year conference to begin an early planning so that we will be able to avoid some of
the problem we encountered, ranging from the issue of delegate tags, guest speaker, lodging, awareness, consultation of all
stake holders among others. In short it was a tremendous success.  You can count on my supports at any time.  Thanks,
