| Let us come together as one and let go our differences. |
| By: Mr. Mamadee konneh, President of WIMAM. July 9, 06 |
It has been said and as we all are aware, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. Why can't we be good listeners and allow others to express their opinions? I would like to point out some issues that are affecting our community, and my administration will do every thing to solve this dispute if Allah’s agree. Before proceeding, I would like to ask the following questions: Does it mean by being an elder that you don't have to listen to one that is younger than you or that being youngsters in the community means you are not entitled to your opinion; Or that you have nothing to give back, (contribute) to your community? Please allow me to clarify what I mean by the phrase "contribution". I believe as leaders, we should all work together despite our age. A leader was made but not created, so let’s give those with the moral and ethical conducts an opportunity to serve our people despite their youth. Whenever we take off the notion from our mind; I am the oldest, our community will be better and our brotherhood will not be affected by any evil-minded individuals. There are so many ways a problem can be solved without confronting one another: let us try to find cause of the problem. How? By voicing our points that we think were the reasons for that particular drama. We shouldn't confront, let us be exemplars to our children and our fellow countrymen and women. If violence could solve anything in this world, I don't think the Liberian War would have lasted long. We, (Mandingo) retaliated and showed the entire world who we are and what we stood for, but in the end, we are all looking towards the reconciliation in our country. We shouldn't encourage one another to do evil acts. I also want to stress that I am not above taking advice from elders for the betterment of our community. Our grandparents to our parents paved the way for every one of us today. Why can't we do the same for the next generation? Is it because we have forgotten what we actually stand for or is it just out of ignorance? Let us know that we came to the United States for a reason, we should try to help one another fulfill our American dreams instead fighting among ourselves. My dear brothers and sisters let us try to listen and hear one another, and to find a mutual solution. Again, let us be loyal to ourselves and to all those depending upon us, while keeping our self-respect. Please, please, let us keep our friendships. We know this comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage, it must not be taken for granted, but requires a joint effort. In conclusion, I need the help of all men and women of WIMAM in order to have a better environment. Please come and join the Board and let's keep the sprit of unity moving forward. Long live WIMAM, and long live the Mandingo community. Thank you, Mamadee Konneh President, WIMAM |
