A Liberian educator has called on the Liberian government to enforce the compulsory primary education
policy by past governments. Ms. Yeahnee King, administrator of the King Foundation Community School
in Caldwell said the government should begin taking initiatives that will lead to the enforcement of
compulsory primary education in the country.

Speaking to this paper shortly after program marking the official close of the 2005/2006 academic year of
the school last Sunday, she said if the "less fortunate parents and children, especially street children will
abandon street life and focus on education, then the government through the Education Ministry needs to
launch a vigorous campaign that would raise parents' and street children's interest for education."

The Liberian educator further said that the policy on compulsory primary education for children is an
important initiative for the Liberian society. According to her, such initiative is intended to benefit future
generation and must not be overlooked in the country.

Ms. Yeahnee also said government needed to do everything within her reach to educate about 90Percent
of the population, especially the youth. She said her institution is considering an action plan to undertake
a workshop that would involve all parents residing within that township on the importance of children
education in the country

According to Ms. King, the 14 years of conflict has victimized the children, as such, her school would
leave no stone unturned in encouraging both the parents and children in the process of human resource
development in the preparation for a brighter Liberian society.

For his part, Mr. Dixon Gblah, Regional Program Director of the Foundation for International Dignity
(FIND) who served as keynote speaker described children as the future lights of the Liberian nation, and
urged government to try to shift their future.

He said there are difficult challenges ahead of children due to the mismanagement of state funds that has
led to hardship in the country.
